2018 Pinot Noir, Laugh
A cool climate Pinot Noir sourced from the Cornerstone Vineyard at the gateway to Sonoma Valley.
The growing season of 2018 proved to be one of the more “typical” in several years, with many predicting it will yield exceptional wines. Mostly moderate temperatures gave way to a long growing season and a relaxed harvest. February saw a bit warmer temperatures, but otherwise Spring was long and cooler than usual leading to an extended bloom. Summer temperatures were moderate with few heat spikes, and even cooling in July, which led to a longer hang time for flavor development and maturation. Harvest was smooth with a mild rain in early October, followed by dry weather and moderate heat.
Our iconic Sonoma winemaker Don Van Staaveren, honored by Wine Spectator in 2000 for producing the number one wine among its "Top 100 Wines of the World," crafted this delicate Pinot Noir from the cool climate of Carneros, the gateway to Sonoma Valley. Don, who began his career managing vineyards, earned acclaim as winemaker at Chateau St. Jean, Artesa, and Three Sticks wineries.
