2016 Chardonnay
Description
100% Chardonnay from the cool-climate appellation of Carneros.
Tasting Notes
Sweet aromas of baked apple and pear, plus white flowers start this wine off to a core of juicy stone fruit. Fresh acidity and full mouthfeel complete the charm of this Chardonnay.
Production Notes
After four years of drought, the 2016 growing season welcomed winter rains followed by moderate spring temperatures, and a late, heavy rain in April. Throughout the summer, the weather was filled with hallmark warm days and cool nights, with very few heat spikes, creating an evenly paced and somewhat longer growing season than in past years. Cooler temperatures arrived in September, which allowed the grapes a little extra hang time which resulted in full, luscious flavors.
Winemaker Notes
Our iconic Sonoma winemaker Don Van Staaveren, honored by Wine Spectator in 2000 for producing the number one wine among its "Top 100 Wines of the World," crafted this elegant Chardonnay from the cool climate of Carneros, the gateway to Sonoma Valley. Don, who began his career managing vineyards, earned acclaim as winemaker at Chateau St. Jean, Artesa, and Three Sticks wineries.
